In 1942, there was a small town called Zanda on the border between China and Myanmar. A group of routed troops from all over the world gathered in the place where gunfire attacked from time to time. 1942年，中緬邊境有座叫禪達的小鎮。時不時受到砲火襲擊的地方，聚集著一群來自五湖四海的潰兵。他們是小太爺孟煩了（張譯 飾）、軍醫郝獸醫（羅京民 飾）、東北佬迷龍（張國強 飾）、阿譯長官（王往 飾）、湖南人不辣（王大治 飾）等。他們只求有吃的死不了，如同活死屍。這時，師 長虞嘯卿（邢佳棟 飾）出現了，他想利用這群散兵重組川軍團，空降緬甸參加戰爭。但到達戰場的小分隊面對的卻是已成定局的潰敗。最後剩下的孟煩了一行人被逼退到四面楚歌的小屋裡。外面是不斷靠近的日本兵，危機的最高點，拯救他們的是自稱團長的龍文章（段奕宏 飾）。龍文章其人，由來不明，不按常理出牌，卻奇跡地帶領著孟煩了一行人渡過怒江，回到了禪達。等待他們的不是嘉獎，而是看守。而龍文章則被髮現根本不是什麼團長，而是摘了軍銜自己掛帥的中尉。就在大家都猜測龍文章凶多吉少時，龍文章不僅沒死還被虞嘯卿任命為川軍團團長，但等待他們的是更深的漩渦……
